Spirit Week: Blue and White Day!

Today is Blue and White Day! Here are some pics.

o
Mommy's first attempt at face painting was marginal at best, but Maren didn't mind: these are supposed to be stars.

o
Fortunately Daddy took over and made this lovely St. Paul's logo.

o
That's supposed to be a heart on her nose, painted by Mommy.

o
By Daddy, obviously. The current logo...

o
...And then he goes retro! The old-school St. Paul's logo on the other side.

o
Deacon.

o
Tomorrow is Bad Hair Day... look out!

Good Eatin' with the AFB: Chipotle!

I found myself in Studio City today, so I stopped for lunch at the trendy new Fresh-Mex place, Chipotle.

o
Enjoying a burrito. It's like Togo's, but with burritos instead of sandwiches.

o
The photographer, also enjoying a burrito, reflected in my sunglasses!

o
Our review: 4 out of 5 jalapenos.

Spirit Week: Pajama Day!

It's Spirit Week this week at school! Today is Pajama Day.

WEIRD ALffs!

How fortunate Weird Al Yankovic must have felt today to have his picture taken with us at the Van Nuys Costco!

o
Truth be told, he was there to sign copies of his new children's book, When I Grow Up.

o
We're big fans of Al, so it was a thrill for us to meet him. He couldn't have been nicer!

o
Also on hand, because we have a long and illustrious history of waiting in long lines with them: the Kwants!

o
I'm still trying to get the promised Superbowl post together... hopefully in the next few days!

Deacon's 9th Birthday!

Sorry about the delay! As promised, here's full AFB coverage of Deacon's 9th Birthday.
o
The festivities started on Friday, January 21st, with some Krispy Kreme treats for Deacon and his fellow 3rd Graders!

o

o

o
Daddy couldn't resist taking a few shots of Deacon's rainforest diorama...

o

o
On the way out of school, with a big "9" balloon.

o
Birthday Boy!

o
Saturday was Deacon's actual birthday. We went to Medieval Times in Buena Park!

o
This guy said Happy Birthday to Deacon!

o
We were rooting for the Blue Knight.

o
He didn't win, but I thought he looked a bit like Steve Perry from Journey. Don't Stop Believin', dude!!

o
Lil' jousters!

o
Back home in Burbank... a How to Train Your Dragon cake!

o
Blowing out the candles. AFB apologies for Deacon's state of dress (or lack thereof).

o
Presents!

o

o
Fully dressed... in his new How to Train Your Dragon jammies.

o
Finally... here's our official Medieval Times portrait.

o
All Hail King Derek! I think it's a great pic.

Alffs In Print - Again!

Some of you may remember WAAAAAY back to the beginning of this blog, when Deacon and Maren made the pages of the Star Wars Insider magazine.
o
Well, it's happened again, sort of! Our very own Tauntaun sleeping bags, as presented to the kids on Christmas morning 2009 by Santa (in Fair Oaks), made the print version of the ThinkGeek catalog, which we never would have seen were it not for a friend of Derek's at work, who left it on his desk thinking he'd enjoy seeing the many Star Wars items inside (and not knowing one of the pictures was ours).
o
So here it is: the cover, and the page with our pic!

Superbowl Sunday 2011!

Another retro post! Sorry I didn't really post this until today, July 10, 2011. Here it is: SUPERBOWL 2011!

What better way to celebrate the epic battle between the Steelers and Packers than with a cute lil' New England Patriots fan? Violet enjoys the game with dad Alfred.

Where else but the AFB could a bunch of pictures of people watching TV be so enthralling??

Chico's own Aaron Rodgers, MVP and all around hero of Superbowl XLV! I think he was the MVP, anyway. It's July, so I can't remember, really.

Fortunately we had true sports experts on hand in the persons of Luke, Tim and Jake to enlighten us when needed.

Patriots superfans Alfred and Agazana are hopeful for 2012! And noted non-sports fans Steve and Suanne enjoyed the commercials. Steve won the MVT award for the day: Most Valuable T-Shirt, featuring Lando Calrissian.

Health food.

Will it be the Steelers or Packers??

PACKERS!! Deacon is happy.

A postgame drum solo from Natalie.

Ah, another great event in the history books. Now to eat all the leftover chips.
