Starting with some safety tips from Coach John...

Then it was down to business.

o
And it's away!

o
The 100 degree heat wasn't as sizzling as Deacon's driving!
o
A movie

o
Deacon took a break, and the gallery took a swig of Gatorade (which eventually went down the front of the gallery's brand-new dance dress).
o
Oh, my aching back! He might need to adjust his swing at next week's lesson.

She had her second class today; the first class was last week, and all the other little girls had pretty dresses. Maren's street clothes simply wouldn't do...

...so off we went to Karabel Dancewear for some duds.

Maren does a great job following the teacher's instructions!

Right after her ballet class, we picked Deacon up from school and headed to his first Golf class.

Home on the Range

Yesterday, we visited the William S. Hart Museum in Newhall, CA!
o
o
o
Deacon wanted to make sure he would fit in with the Western theme, insisting he wear a hat, sheriff's badge, moustache and gun belt to the museum.

It's not every day you get to see a herd of bison!

This ain't your house, varmint.

o
The tables are turned!

o
Waiting for the guided tour.

o
Our guide, Ron, gives us the grand tour.

o
Derek and the kids admired this original painting...

o
...while I admired the fact that someone could keep this very old bathroom so clean!

o
The kids pause to pay their respects at the dog graveyard.

o
Then... a trip to the gift shop!

o
Afterward we went to that very western-themed restaurant, Mimi's Cafe, for some grub.

Art Showcase: "The Cleaneroo" by Deacon

Watching me clean the house all the time gave Deacon the idea to design a cleaning robot for me. Here is The Cleaneroo.

Good Vibrations!

Since Deacon is a big fan of the Beach Boys, he was thrilled to get to see Brian Wilson in concert at the Hollywood Bowl yesterday!
o
Maren and Mommy had tickets, too, but had to miss out because of Maren's illness. But Daddy and Deacon were among friends -- a large contingent of folks from St. Paul's!
o
Of course, every fun outing has to begin with a visit to the gift shop.

o
And look what was in the Hollywood Bowl gift shop! UGLYDOLLS!

o
Cinko was happy to be with his own kind.
o
o
Derek samples the fine cuisine.

Enjoying the show

Art Showcase: "Picture for Maren" by Deacon

Picture for Maren, by Deacon
o
Maren is sick today (Saturday), so Deacon wanted to draw a picture to cheer her up. Even in her weakened state, Maren insisted he draw noses on the people (since his people don't usually have noses.) So this is the picture he drew; it features Maren and Peaco (her uglydoll) on top of a barbell being lifted (with great effort) by Deacon.

Cooking with Maren

When Maren came to me this afternoon and announced that she had made a cake for Deacon, I couldn't wait to see her latest culinary creation! o

How The West Was Won

We're having a great weekend with Grammie, who came down from Sacramento to join us for a one-time only screening of How The West Was Won (in honor of its blu-ray release) in glorious Cinerama!
o

A few cell phone pics... Grammie enjoys some memorabilia!
o
Film auteur Derek approves of the tri-magazined/lensed Cinerama camera.

o
Perhaps inspired by the beautiful photography in How The West Was Won, Grammie (who has been known to be an underachiever in the field of still photography) took this well-composed shot!!

o
After bawling at the end of the movie, Terri and Grammie pose in front of the famous Cinerama Dome in Hollywood.
