The Graduate

Thanks everyone for your kind comments regarding our first anniversary. We're so glad to be able to keep in touch this way!
f
Deacon graduated from Kindergarten on Sunday, June 1st! Enjoy some pictures and movies of this momentous occasion.

f

There was a very nice ceremony, complete with caps and gowns, and it was a great celebration of the kindergartners' many achievements.

In the car, ready to go to the ceremony. And aren't the garbage cans nice in the background?

g

A song: "When I'm 101, I might be grumpy..."

f
What they're thankful for...

f
A song in which the sun goes up and down... we liked that Deacon's sun had hair and sunglasses!

f
"When I grow up, I want to be..."
f
Pomp and Circumstance!

f
Before each child received his or her diploma, Miss Miller read a "poem" they worked on together. Here is Deacon's poem:
g
I am a good robot builder
I am a kid who loves dinosaurs
I am a dinosaur expert
I am a boy who plays pillow fights with my dad and sister
I am a drawer of animals
I am a piano player
I am a Star Wars player
I am a lover of my mommy and daddy and sister
I am a boy who likes the Natural History Museum
I am a boy who likes when Daddy gets home from work
I am a big brother to my sister Maren
I am a boy who puts others in front of me
I am an eater of Wendy's chicken
I am Deacon Alff
g
Can't wait for that diploma!

g
Forget the handshake, Mr. Koeppel, give me that paper!

f
Deacon drew this self-portrait. He says he's an 18 year-old paleontologist.
h
He also wants me to mention that the little thing in the black box next to his pants is a Compsognathus skull.
h
If you'd like more information on the Compsognathus, you can find it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compsognathas

The stage is finally mine. MINE!!

f
Next year I will graduate from Preschool, and assume my rightful place as the Queen of America!!

Technical Difficulties

Our PC has not been wanting to talk to our scanner lately, so I haven't been able to scan artwork for blog updates. And with a lack of any other blog-worthy events, or even archival pictures, it's been a quiet week here at the AFB.
g
Rest assured that we will have exciting updates in the next few days and into next week, as it is the final week of school, and Deacon is graduating from Kindergarten!
g
Thanks for your patience, everyone! :)

Hooray Indiana Jones!

Derek and I saw the movie today down at the ArcLight Cinerama Dome in Hollywood, but shockingly didn't take any pictures at the theater. And I figured, why show a dumb old picture of us anyway when I can just put up a picture of this guy?

To complete the AFB Indiana Jones Tribute Experience, go ahead and sing the Raiders March: Dum-da-dum-dum- - -dum da dum...

Mother's Day in Burbank

Though we didn't do anything wildly out of the ordinary for a Sunday aftenoon, we did have an extra special lunch yesterday at Chevy's. Deacon took this picture of Mommy & Daddy.
f

Asked to take a "nice" picture, these were the results...

Back at home... the kids gave me the nicest cards and handmade gifts!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there, especially the two best moms in the universe, Bonnie and Darlene. We love you so much and hope you have a very happy day!
f
Here's something Deacon prepared for me for the occasion (handwriting courtesy of his teacher, Miss Miller):

Ah, to be 30 pounds and 7 feet tall.

Sunday Afternoon in Hollywood!

Yesterday we had a blast visiting old friends Ken, Laura, and Susan (in town from Sacramento) in Ken and Laura's beautiful Hollywood home!
f
Lots of wildlife in the Hollywood hills! Laura and Deacon check out a hawk's nest in the trees.

f
The nest is in there somewhere...

f
Ken gives Maren a Mandolin lesson.

f
What has Maren discovered?? There are always interesting things to look at in Hollywood!

f
Mmmm, a cupcake.

Photo ops!! Laura, Maren, Deacon, and Ken.

f
What a view!!!

f
Well, it's back to Burbank for the Alffs... Ken and Susan say goodbye on the steps.
