Couldn't you have digitally replaced me with James Spader?

Tom said...

Good to see you included the infamous "Brian, Stan & Earl" footage...it's right up there with the Zapuder film.

Tom said...

I meant "Zapruder"...

Derek looks genuinely upset to be pelted with rice.

Derek said...

Spader was unavailable. Then we went down the list: Pitt, Affleck, Norton, Penn, and even into Giamatti and Buscemi territory, but in the end, we decided we like the original footage best.

I would've settled for the "Hey, Vern" guy.

Terri said...

Isn't the 'Hey Vern' guy dead?

Derek said...

Yes. Sadly, Jim Varney passed on in 2000.

This may be a bit too "inside baseball" for the casual blog reader, but at one point we even entertained the controversial idea of casting Natalie Portman in the Tom role just to shake things up.

Tom said...

Couldn't you have inserted her as my date?

Derek said...

Funny you should mention that! The idea of digitally inserting a "date" for Tom came up early on in the restoration process. The first choice? For my money it just doesn't get any better than Cate Blanchett.

We do have a picture of Stan dancing with our cardboard Princess Leia, don't we? That's sort of the pre digital-age version of all of this.

I will try to scan the picture sometime today.

Terri said...

Just put the picture up.

Oh, that photo is going up on our Intervarsity and Beechwood House Facebook pages.

You'll notice she's pointing a gun at him, but Stan's oblivious.
