Easter 2013: Turkey Dinner

So I'm on this annoying diet following my stem cell transplant in February. I have to be on the diet until mid-May. Basically I have to cook all my own food at home, and I can't eat out. EVER. Not one french fry. SO, having just done the Thanksgiving post, we decided the turkey looked good, and we'd have a turkey dinner on Easter!

I also just realized I only have two pics - the turkey and Derek's plate. So here they are!

Check back soon for the Easter finale - the egg hunt!

The Nixon Library

I'll get back to Easter in a bit, but I wanted to put up a few pics from today's visit to the Nixon Library in Yorba Linda, CA. We're on Easter Break this week!

Deacon is doing a report on President Nixon, and the trip to his library today, which included his helicopter, birthplace and headstone, was well worth it. I had no idea it would be such a beautiful place!

Deacon outside the impressive entrance!

Inside...

Deacon loves this imagery of the eagle with the olive branch and arrows on the Presidential seal.

He really enjoyed this miniature Nixon Farm, circa 1920.

The very Bible upon which President Nixon was sworn in in January, 1969!

Wow, a piece of the Berlin Wall! This place has everything.

This limo was used by Presidents Nixon, Ford and Carter!

Oh yeah, Watergate. Nixon is presented warts and all. The Watergate scandal takes up a large section of the museum.

Deacon with Nixon's headstone.

The house where he was born!

Here we go. Nixon's helicopter. We went inside, but weren't allowed to take pics.

One more walk by the headstones of Pat and Richard Nixon.

And that's it! I was inspired to get this post up today because I just didn't realize how impressive this place would be. Deacon really enjoyed it and is even (almost, sorta) inspired to work on his report during his vacation. We'll see how that goes.

Next: back to Easter 2013 - eggs-a-plenty!

Easter 2013!

I have decided that I will break Easter up into several posts. That way I'll have some new material on the blog in the coming days. :)

Today's category is Group Shots. Here are a few group shots from today!

Derek and the kids are off to church!

After church, the kids with their baskets.

Joined by Jeni, ready to hunt for eggs!

Deacon, Mommy and Maren.

A great shot of Mr. Jellybean, Kathy and Jeni.

Short and sweet today! We'll have more soon, including our Easter turkey dinner and the big North Orchard Egg Hunt.

Hope everyone had a very happy and blessed Easter!

Here's the back.

Visit with Santa 2012!

I know I still need to do the big Thanksgiving Doorbuster Mega Post! Sorry. Will get to that soon.

Until then... the kids saw Santa today at the Burbank Mall! Apparently this year Maren asked for a $5,000.00 treadmill she saw at Sport Chalet on the way into the mall. (Derek said, "for that price, it had better include Netflix.") Ha.

Here's the pic!

Super Thanksgiving Doorbuster Mega Post!

Welcome to the Super Thanksgiving Doorbuster Mega Post, which I'm cheating way back to the end of November to disguise the fact that I'm actually posting it in March 2013!

We had such a great Thanksgiving and it's a shame that it took me 4 months to put it on the blog. Anyway, here it is!

There are so many pics, it's almost impossible in this new Blogger interface to caption them all.... I think I'll summarize here at the beginning and let you take in the pics, hopefully with some idea of what's going on in them.

Of course we prepared the turkey and tables... then everyone ate and took the annual Star Wars quiz.  Jason was the winner - he won a Star Wars Lightsaber Pen!

Things really got rolling with the first ever Alff Thanksgiving Talent Show.  Everyone had something to contribute, including a trumpet solo, paper airplane demo, flute, piano and drum solos, dramatic readings, riddles, stories, origami, nose and ear wiggling, and Fosse Fingers!

Then the kids went outside and it was time for the sing-along.

After that... the annual end-of-the-evening Ross Family Photo, interrupted by Deacon, Maren, and in his Ross Family Photo debut, Jason in the finale pic.

Sorry to caption this way but otherwise I don't know if I'd ever, ever get this post up!

Happy Thanksgiving, a week or so away from Easter 2013!

Here are the pics!
