The Nixon Library

I'll get back to Easter in a bit, but I wanted to put up a few pics from today's visit to the Nixon Library in Yorba Linda, CA. We're on Easter Break this week!

Deacon is doing a report on President Nixon, and the trip to his library today, which included his helicopter, birthplace and headstone, was well worth it. I had no idea it would be such a beautiful place!

Deacon outside the impressive entrance!

Inside...

Deacon loves this imagery of the eagle with the olive branch and arrows on the Presidential seal.

He really enjoyed this miniature Nixon Farm, circa 1920.

The very Bible upon which President Nixon was sworn in in January, 1969!

Wow, a piece of the Berlin Wall! This place has everything.

This limo was used by Presidents Nixon, Ford and Carter!

Oh yeah, Watergate. Nixon is presented warts and all. The Watergate scandal takes up a large section of the museum.

Deacon with Nixon's headstone.

The house where he was born!

Here we go. Nixon's helicopter. We went inside, but weren't allowed to take pics.

One more walk by the headstones of Pat and Richard Nixon.

And that's it! I was inspired to get this post up today because I just didn't realize how impressive this place would be. Deacon really enjoyed it and is even (almost, sorta) inspired to work on his report during his vacation. We'll see how that goes.

Next: back to Easter 2013 - eggs-a-plenty!

I would LOVE to see it someday, especially because I spent so much time all those years ago watching the Watergate hearings. You kids were very young at the time and in between the care and feeding of my two beautiful little children (I mean that),I watched the hearings. It was riveting TV!

Wow - that's very impressive! Who knew? Glad you both had such a great time, and that it was so interesting.

I went to the JFK Library in Boston last Fall, and was thoroughly impressed with it. Perhaps we should try to visit more Presidential Libraries!

That's what I said - who knew?? Derek and I were just talking about the Kennedy Library, so cool that you got to visit it.

Deacon's class went to the Reagan Library in Simi Valley this year - Air Force One is there and did not disappoint! Yes, I think more visits to Presidential libraries are in order! :)

Mom - I remember the Watergate hearings but I have a better memory of the night of the Patty Hearst thing. I remember not getting any dinner.

That's not true! I distinctly remember making you a quick grilled cheese sandwich. It was your Dad who didn't get any dinner. You and Chris both had a dinner of sorts :)
