Art Showcase: "Woody Woodpecker" by Deacon

Deacon has really been enjoying Woody Woodpecker cartoons lately.

Last night he was watching an old "making-of" segment on the Woody Woodpecker DVD featuring creator/producer/director Walter Lantz, who mentioned that he had received many drawings from kids. Deacon immediately decided that he wanted to send a drawing to Mr. Lantz, too. We haven't had the heart to tell him that Mr. Lantz died in 1994! So for now, we'll feature his drawing here on the AFB.

Wow! Those are quite good! I think you have a budding artist (or animator) in the family!

Hi Trina! He loves to draw things in sequences, like flip-page animation. On this one he tried to draw Woody with an "animated" head by drawing and erasing his head in different positions, leaving trace lines to suggest movement... I told him that with Walt Disney Feature Animation a half mile away, he'd have a good opportunity to be an animator someday. Of course he told me he'd rather be a paleontologist! :)
