BREAKING NEWS: SNOWMAGEDDON 0-11

It last snowed in Burbank on January 10th, 1949...

o
So it was a BIG surprise when it snowed again today for the first time in 62 years!!

o

o

o
Derek and Maren were at a birthday party in Sherman Oaks... so I had to think fast. Not knowing where the snow gloves were, I pulled out some oven mitts...
o
...and a boogie board!

o
We know we always completely overindulge in picture taking, but considering this might not happen again for a half a century, we hope you'll forgive us for posting a bunch of scenery pics to fully document the event.

o
Deacon builds a snowman!

Deacon and "Snowbug".

o
The Verdugo Mountains, 1949...

o
2011!

o
More scenery.

o

o
Derek and Maren finally made it home (after braving LA freeways full of people unaccustomed to driving in SNOW), and Maren proved how dangerous she is with a snowball!!
o
LOOK OUT MOMMY!
o
She got me!

o
A new Olympic sport? Snow Boogieboarding!

o

o

o
o
Maren wasn't having any fun AT ALL.

o
I decided we needed hot chocolate, so I drove to Krispy Kreme around the corner (where they have the world's best hot chocolate) and along the way took this pic of actual SNOW on my windshield.
o
Meanwhile... relaxing in front of the DVD fireplace.
o
o
We will of course bring you any further developments as they... develop. Let It Snow!!

I remember the 1949 snowfall! We lived in Bellflower and I was 8 years old. I was sick with the measles and mom would not let me go outside when it started snowing. Sister Kay played in it and I watched from the window, a bit teary-eyed. I guess I presented a pitiful sight because Kay gathered up some snow in a jar and brought it to me. It quickly melted in the warm house, but at least I got to touch it and taste it. We had never seen snow before, so it was really exciting!

That is SO SAD... if it snows soon in Fair Oaks, please go out and throw some snowballs at Gramps.
