Derek took this picture at last night's Spring Concert. It happens to be digital photo #50,000!

Thanks to Leyla, Sydney, Maren, Ameila, Kylie, Hope, Emma and Micaela for (unknowingly) posing for such an historic picture in the Alff Family photo archives.

The focus ring on the lens is falling off, but otherwise the camera is still going strong! On to 60,000!

Check back soon for full coverage of Molly's 8th Grade Graduation, and the aforementioned Spring Concert!

UPDATE 5/29 2:40 p.m. The inner and outer focus rings have both fallen off.

Aw shucks, it warn't nothin'! Seriously folks, I've had a blast. But I couldn't have done it without all you "little people" out there who have made your way into my viewfinder over the years... Thank you and here's to the next 50,000!
I tip my lens to you. You were a worthy successor.
Thanks, Canny!
If I've figured correctly, dividing the cost of the camera by 50,000, we've paid $0.02 per picture.
And getting into what for me is extremely complicated math, figuring we used to pay $6.00 for a 24 pic roll of film then another $5 or so for developing - at that rate, we would have spent $22,917 on these 50,000 pictures.
I think that means over 9 years that's been a savings of almost $22,000.
WOW!!! This calls for celebration. Maybe a vacation, or large TV!
Or both!!
Ok, I'm going to brush off my very rusty math skills and come at this from another angle:
You probably took the first picture with your beloved Sony around Jan. 1, 2002 (shortly before Deacon was born). The number of days between that date and May 27, 2010 when you took the 50,000th picture is 3,066.
Therefore you averaged a fraction over 16 digital snapshots a day.
I'd say you took full advantage of that camera AND you have taken some of the most beautiful pictures I've ever seen. Of course most of them are of my Grandkids so what's not to love??
Grammie, you've kept your superior math skills from us long enough. Report to Houston immediately!
