R.I.P. Grammie's Computer

aaaaaa2005-2007
h
Grammie's computer (twin to ours) bit the dust yesterday after a power surge fried the motherboard. Grammie heard an explosion down the street, and next thing she knew she couldn't turn on her computer. At least it was sort of exciting, with explosions and all!
h
Fortunately the Geek Squad folks said that her hard drive had survived, and right now they're feverishly working, using all their geek skills and talents, to transfer her hard drive contents to her new Gateway computer.
g
We'll always have fond memories of her old computer -- sitting in front of it talking to Earthlink tech support, waiting forever for pictures to load, not getting an internet connection...
g
Of course, we were the ones who advised Grammie to get that computer in the first place. In fact, we have a long history of giving Grammie marginal computer advice. But Derek still stands by his infamous statement, back in the mid-90s, that she should stick with a DOS operating system even though the Windows era was well underway. At least he wasn't too opposed to her getting a color monitor at the time, though he was a bit wary of that as well!

I do believe that Derek's middle name should have been DOS, he was so attached to it and as far as I know, still is!!!! DOS or not, he's going to have his work cut out for him when he next visits, helping me sort out the new VISTA system. I'M CONFUSED AND NEED HELP! So what's new???

C:\Perhaps one day Microsoft will introduce the Confused and Need Help Operating System (C&NHOS).

Actually, I have been using C&NHOS with Windows for quite a while and it hasn't helped me a bit...

Some suggested VISTA jokes:

Viruses,
Intrusions,
Spyware,
Trojans,
Adware

Virtually Ineffective System, Truly Annoying

Valueless, Incomprehensible, Sub-par, Terrible, Abysmal
