The school's annual Fall Festival is tomorrow (Saturday the 20th), and it will include a Costume Parade. So with a couple of weeks left to go before Halloween, it was necessary to finish the kids' costumes tonight.

Maren is a whale, and Deacon is a giant squid. Now they can fight like, well, a whale and a squid!

The only detail not finished is the blowhole on Maren's costume. Originally it was going to be functional, like with a working spray of mist coming out a hole in the head. Then it was just going to be a bit of stitching. Then it was going to be some material glued on, and now we're thinking it might be drawn on with a sharpie. Ah, the artistic compromises you make when you're super tired!
We'll have about a million more pictures tomorrow! :)

Very CUTE! WOW! You are a fabric sculptruss (sp?) ahem...artist. I'm serious. Your costumes are terrific. I suspect the Squid took most of the time. Great detail!
Ha ha...about the blow hole. It's like Ruth's bloomers in Pirates of Penzance. I keep promising the actress I'll make her some and haven't yet...maybe I'll get them done for the last weekend...hmm.
Terri! These costumes are amazing! You really are a fabric sculptress! Looking forward to seeing more pictures! Hope everyone has a great time!
I was just saying to Molly I wondered with the Alff kids were going to be for Halloween. This is wonderful! Swim on!

So nice of you guys! The whale was actually far more challenging than the squid. I re-did that square head 3 times. And the fins were surprisingly difficult!
The squid had more detail but for some reason it was easier. I really need a sewing machine now (and to take a class!) because my hands get so stiff and sore... I did a lot more hot-gluing than stitching toward the end of the process! Thanks again you guys! :)
